Lila M. Stromer Editorial Services, Working With Your Bright IdeasWelcome!

I realize how important it is that you find the best person to edit your work, someone who is both exceedingly capable and easy to work with. I have extensive editorial (copyediting, proofreading, and research) experience with academic, business, and creative writing. My testimonials will attest to my abilities, attention to detail, and working style.

Academic: As the former managing editor of a highly ranked academic journal and as a freelancer, I have line edited more than 200 articles, as well as multiple books and dissertations, in the social sciences and humanties. I have edited for scholars at the top of their field, graduate students beginning their writing careers, and scholars for whom English is not their native language. Each project has its own needs, worked out with the author or publisher, where flexibility, attention to detail, and keeping the author's clear voice remain paramount.

Business: My ability to edit a variety of business styles is highlighted by my work as a web content editor and my work with both profit and nonprofit organizations. I have edited websites and national directories; and dozens of pieces of marketing, fundraising, and informational literature. Business writing serves a specific purpose and is intended for a general audience. As the Website Editor for Chicago Women in Publishing, I update content on a regular basis, and am leading the taskforce on redesigning the site.

Creative: With a lifelong passion for theater, and with over 20 years of experience as a dramaturg, I have collaborated with playwrights across the country whose writing ranges from the comedic to the surreal. I have honed developmental editing skills, asking questions about clarity, focus, and word choice. In understanding the intent of the playwright in writing this play, and by paying close attention to the playwright's voice, I am able to offer ideas and suggestions for future drafts. This deep understanding of plot, character development, and unique language is important for all creative writing.

I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, Chicago Women in Publishing, National Association of Independent Writers and Editors, Freelancers Union, Chicago Creative Coalition, and Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas. I also belong to the LinkedIn discussion groups Chicago Publishing Network, Editors and Proofreaders, Publishing and Editing Professionals, and Textbook Publishing Professionals.
